Fighting Climate Change

Sheldon Beach Cleanup

We see firsthand what increasingly extreme storms and rising sea levels mean for our coastal economy and way of life in the Ocean State. Rhode Island’s own Coastal Resources Management Council has begun to redraw Rhode Island’s map for what those rising seas will do. I regularly battle the fossil fuel industry, so we can hasten America’s transition to a clean energy economy and leave this planet a better, safer place for our children and grandchildren.

The Inflation Reduction Act was a major step toward climate safety, and I shaped many of the clean energy provisions of the law – provisions that will save Rhode Islanders money and create jobs. I founded the bipartisan Senate Oceans Caucus to protect natural resources like Narragansett Bay, and I created a national coastal fund to help communities near the ocean address the unique challenges facing coastal infrastructure.

I’ve authored legislation to put a price on carbon pollution, reduce the emissions that drive climate change, and return the money back to the American people. Democrats and Republicans serious about tackling climate change agree that a system like the one I’ve proposed is our best bet for a path to a safe climate and healthy ocean.
